Clonca, County Donegal, Ireland
English: Grave slab of Magnus MacOrristin, located at the north wall of the old church of Clonca. The inscription as transcribed by Lacy: Fergus mak Allan do rini in clach sa magnus mec orrisin ia fo Trl seo. (Note that the “r” in “Trl” has a tilde.) This belongs to the ensemble of the National Monument in State Care #25. See entry 1539 and description on p. 255 in Brian Lacy: Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, ISBN 0-9508407-0-X. Besides the sword, a hurley stick and a sliotar are depicted. The slab is probably mid 16th century. See p. 225 in Alistair Rowan: The Buildings of Ireland: North West Ulster, Yale University Press, ISBN 0-300-09667-4. |
