| Description | Class 57 loco 57603 is seen at London Paddington on the morning of 17th June. It had been sent to rescue a pair of Heathrow Express class 332 electric multiple units (EMUs). The EMUs were unable to move under their own power due to some of the overhead electric wires being turned off following the derailment of a Turbo DMU just outside the station the previous evening. From talking to some of the staff on the platform I understand that the loco hauled the two units back to Heathrow Express' depot at Old Oak Common. Presumably this meant that they could then be returned to service using one of the platforms which still had working overhead electric wires, whilst the platform it vacated could be freed up for diesel-powered passenger trains. |
