Description

Panasonic GX7 + Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm F2.8 ASPH OIS

In 2016 and 2017, I have been following a small population of this rare bee-mimicking hoverfly in the Woluwé Parc in Brussels. In the Parc, the species is confined to small group of free-standing horse-chestnut trees, where both male and female individuals are found resting on the base of these trees. Egg-laying of females have been also been noticed.

The flight seasons seems to be spanning over 3 weeks at most, peaking in the first half of May.
