Description
English: The effect of soil acidity on different crop species. Crops (from left to right) are cowpea and maize, demonstrating the aluminium tolerance typical of cowpea. The soil in the background was limed at a rate of 10 t/ha bringing the soil pH (in salt solution) to 4.10, pH (water) to 4.72 and acid saturation to 31%. The soil in the foreground is highly weathered and naturally acid with soil pH (salt solution) of 3.79, pH (water) of 3.84, and acid saturation 75%. This was prepared as a field demonstration for the 5th International Symposium on Soil Plant Interactions at Low pH (2001).
