Description

Dai Stanton's home studio

  • SE 2200A Condenser Microphone - nice for vocals. Sometimes replaced by a Heil PR40 or even the dreaded Shure SM58.
  • SE Reflexion Filter. Cool - don't need a vocal booth.
  • Headphones - AKG K271 for me and cheap Sennheisers for everyone else
  • Mackie 802-VLZ3 mixer. This is stunning for the money. Transparent as you like, decent mike preamps and flexible routing. Solid too - check out the Mackie mixbusters on Youtube
  • Behringer BCF2000 motorised fader bank. Nice. Replaced by a Korg Nanokontrol in the live rig.
  • Focusrite Liquidmix 16 external DSP unit. Unloads all the EQ and compression duties from the Mac
  • Novation Nocturn control surface. Handy for getting in touch with plug-ins.
  • Arturia Analog Factory controller. Controls the Arturia soft synths (moog modular - nice)
  • Keyboard and magic trackpad for the Mac mini. Main software is Logic, Ableton Live! and the wonderful Max for Live! programming environment.
  • Studiomaster 700W RMS power amp.
  • Behringer Truth 360W subwoofer.
  • Roland Fantom X6 Workstation. Fantastic keybed for a semi-weighted. Vintage keys expansion added. Maxed out with 512Mb sample memory with my own Wurly, Mellotron etc samples.
  • Dual 24" 1920x1200 displays. You can never have enough real estate.
  • Roland Juno 106. Legendary analogue synth. Great for basses, pads and drones.
  • CD Drives. Don't really know why I've got three.
  • Media Drives. 1TB for sample libaray and projects. 2 TB Raid array for my music collection (all FLAC) and projects backup.
  • Nakamichi cassette deck. £80 on ebay - for a Nakamichi! In this world of mp3, we forget how good cassette could be.
  • Tascam US1641. 16 in, 4 out USB audio interface. Soon to be replaced by a Mark Of The Unicorn unit.
  • Golden Age Pre-73 microphone preamp. Neve 1073 clone. Brilliant.
  • HHB Circle 5, 8" monitors. Brutally transparent but really acquired because the cones are purple
  • Korg Wavedrum. Nice but still getting to grips with it.
  • Novation XIO 25 - mainly used live for analogue sounds.
  • Akai APC40 Ableton Live! control surface. Lovely. Replaced by a Novation Launchpad for live duties.
  • This is an Alesis Multimix16 desk. Christ on a bike, what a piece of shit!. Still trying to figure out a spectacular way to destroy it and send the video to Alesis.
  • Line6 Recording bass combo.
  • Line6 recording guitar combo.
  • Mooger Foogers! Ring Modulator, Low Pass Filter, Murf, Analogue Delay. These work with the Stantone modular synth which is still under assembly.
  • Sample CDs
  • Korg Kaossilator Pro. Kooool!
  • FX. Lots of 'em. Faves are ZVEX Fuzz Factory, Neo Ventilator and Digitech Whammy.
  • Welsh flag
  • Out of shot - Lots of guitars, pre-CBS and custom shop Fender amps, Hammond C3 and Leslie, lots of basses, Farfisa Compact Duo. Yamaha YC45 etc.
