The memorial sign commemorating the December Murders on December 8th, 1982. The plaque reads: "On this place on the 8th of December 1982, fifteen prominent sons of Suriname were shot to death by the military regime without any form of due process. They stood for freedom, justice and democracy." Under the list of names the text continues: "Their perseverance left us with the light of hope. Justice and truth set free. This memorial plaque is unvieled on the 8th of December 2009 by the President of the Republic Suriname, R.R. Venetiaan, MA" |
