Description
English: Didcot Signal Box at the GWS Didcot Railway Centre, 20 April 2019. Although growing up on a BR (WR) line where the buildings were chocolate and cream, I had assumed that this merely reflected previous GWR practice, after all, that was the colour of their coaches. In fact, this was a BR (WR) scheme for their buildings. Although chocolate & cream was the GWR's standard colour scheme for their main line coaches, these colours were used only sporadically and sparingly by the GWR on their buildings. The primary colours used were light stone (very light, almost a cream, and often used as an undercoat), mid stone and dark stone, with black and white being used for some elements and structures. This signal box is typical: Mid stone planked body with dark stone frames, dark stone gutters and downpipe, white window frames and black stovepipe. The wooden level crossing gates are white with black posts. The wooden fence is mid stone with dark stone posts and the spear railings are mid stone. Also note the small corrugated shed on the left in mid stone with a chocolate door. The lamp post is mid stone with dark stone trimmings and topped with a black lamp.
