Description

Neon sign in front of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 326, located in the Electric Block Building (316 E. Main Street), in Bozeman, Montana.

In 1891, Bozeman was one of four cities vying to be the capital of the two-year-old state of Montana. To boost its chances, the city began construction of an electric streetcar line travelled along Main Street. The line opened in the spring of 1892, and operated until 1922. A “car barn” was constructed at 316 East Main Street in 1901 where maintenance was provided and streetcars could be housed overnight.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) the second story as early as 1903, and purchased the entire building in 1945. The Eagles hired omnipresent Bozeman architect Fred Willson to remodel it that same year.
