Deutsch: Der 1897 geborene, gebürtige Essener Karl Friedrich Neumann diente im Ersten Weltkrieg auf der SMS Westfalen und fischte das Fernrohr nach der Schlacht am Skagerrak, der größten Seeschlacht des Ersten Weltkriegs, aus der Nordsee. Neumann diente als einfacher Matrose. Er spielte Klavier, Geige, Mandoline und Trompete. Als Trompetist und Violinist war er Teil der Schiffskapelle. Die Seeschlacht hatte der damals 18-Jährige auf dem nur leicht beschädigten Schiff überlebt.
Das „Day-or-Night“-Teleskop-Fernrohr der Firma „Dollond London“ aus dem 19. Jahrhundert vermachte er später seinem Sohn und dieser wiederum gab es an seinen Sohn Klaus Michael weiter. Ein ähnliches Fernrohr findet sich heute auch im Bestand des Royal Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Von der Schlacht am Skagerrak machte Karl Friedrich Neumann auch Fotos, die sich heute im Staatsarchiv in Aurich befinden. Eine Urkunde für die Teilnehmer der Schlacht befindet sich ebenfalls in Aurich. |
