English: Supplementary Movie 4 Explosive cell lysis occurs in the absence of fluorescent stains and fluorescence microscopy. A P. aeruginosa PAK interstitial biofilm was imaged using phase contrast microscopy (Olympus IX71) in the absence of input fluorescence excitation energy, antibiotics or fluorescent stains in the culture media. The 2 time-series show single rod cells rapidly transitioning to the round cell morphotype and then exploding. Time is shown in minutes and seconds. |
