Description
English: Facts about Crimson Rose Butterfly
"Scientific name Crimson Rose Butterfly is Pachliopta hector" Crimson Rose Butterfly is a big size swallowtail butterfly that comes from the genus Pachliopta of the Papilionidae family. The Crimson Rose Butterfly are largely found in Sri Lanka and India and possibly the coastline of western Myanmar. In India, they are found in South India, particularly in Kerala, the Western Ghats and the eastern parts of India, particularly in Odisha and West Bengal. Generally, the Crimson Rose Butterfly is common and not identified to be endangered. It is widespread all along from the Western Ghats to the state of Maharashtra. The Crimson Rose Butterfly prefer to live both in open country and in the jungle. In the arid season, they will be found at a maximum height of 8000 feet above sea level in South India, but the Crimson Rose Butterfly are found throughout the year at lower heights.

Behavior of Crimson Rose Butterfly

The Crimson Rose butterfly is an extremely outstanding looking butterfly, with a prominent tail and has white color bands on its front wings. Similar to other varieties of butterflies in the family, the Crimson Rose butterfly is also incredibly interesting for the part-time naturalist to watch. The Crimson Rose Butterfly is extremely fond of flowers, particularly Lantana. The nectar of these flowers appears to be necessary for the Crimson Rose Butterfly and higher nectar ingestion is considered to increase the production of egg in female butterflies.

The flight of the Crimson Rose butterfly is near to the ground and it is sluggish and flapping, but stable. At greater altitudes, the Crimson Rose Butterfly fly stronger and faster. They bask with their wings spread evenly, occasionally in small flocks at heights, ranging from 10 meters to 15 meters above the trees.

The Crimson Rose butterfly habitually roosts for the nighttime in huge companies on the branches and twigs of shrubs and trees, occasionally accompanied by some Common Mormons. While resting, the Crimson Rose Butterfly draw their front wings halfway between the back wings. The Crimson Rose butterfly sleeps on sloping outstretched twigs or branches of bushes or trees.

Life cycle of a butterfly comes in four stages, egg, larva "caterpillars", pupa "chrysalis" and adult Butterfly. A Crimson Rose Butterfly will attach its eggs to leaves with special glue.

When caterpillars become fully grown they will attach to an appropriate leaf or small branch, than they will shed the outside layer of their skin and a hard skin underneath known as a "chrysalis" will be their new look An adult Crimson Rose Butterfly will come out from the "chrysalis" than it waits a few hours for its wings to dry and fill with blood, before it takes its first flight.

Crimson Rose Butterfly can see yellow, green, and red.

The top flight speed of a Crimson Rose Butterfly is 12 miles per hour and some moths can fly up to 25 miles per hour.
