Commons:Photo challenge/2017 - May - Mammals edit

Shiv, thanks for entering Commons:Photo challenge/2017 - May - Mammals challenge. In this chalenge we only allow 4 entries per photographer and they need to be photographs of wild mammals in natural environment. Please select your best 4 photographs that meet the constraints of the challenge. --Jarekt (talk) 16:42, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Shiv, I removed some of your images which did not show "wild mammals in natural environment", however you still have 7 entries and only 4 are allowed per photographer. Can you select your best 4? Otherwise others will have to choose which of your entries will stay. --Jarekt (talk) 11:48, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
Shiv, I removed 3 of your remaining 7 photographs. I think the remaining 4 are the best, if you disagree please swap them. --Jarekt (talk) 16:43, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Superfluous category creation edit

Hi, I noticed that today you created a few categories that are not relevant because they overlap with existing ones. For example, Category:Mapwing is not useful because we already have Category:Cyrestis thyodamas. And instead of creating Category:Damselfly, you should have used some subcategory of Category:Odonata corresponding to the species of your picture. We will have to correct this. I would recommend you do not create any new category until you get familiar with what already exists. Thank you in advance for understanding. --LamBoet (talk) 06:36, 25 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:A vast amount of knowledge through jeevoka.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Copy-pasting in picture descriptions edit

Hi. I came across one of your pictures - File:Intersting fact on fairy Dragonfly.jpg - and saw that you copy-pasted a large amount of text from different websites in the description (Avon Wildliffe Trust and Smithsonian). You may not be aware, but this is copyright violation; we are not supposed to steal other people's work like that, so I removed the text and changed it to a short and specific description of the picture's subject. This is generally enough for Commons. Then I saw that you did the same with many of your numerous uploads, so I'm asking you to remove all the copy-pasted texts that you published, to avoid violating copyright.

Secondly, the dragonfly on File:Intersting fact on fairy Dragonfly.jpg was grossly misidentified. Gomphus vulgatissimus‎ does not live anywhere near India and looks quite different, so please be more careful with labelling pictures. — Yerpo Eh? 17:15, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Category:Shiv_Kumar's_Photography edit

Shiv Kumar's Photography has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Bird Facts edit

Hello Shiv - the most important fact you can add to your photos like File:Abbott's Babbler Facts 01.jpg, is where the photo was taken. This is very important for subspecies identification, and adding the relevant location categories. Could you add some details to all your photos, please! Thanks! - MPF (talk) 15:07, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
