editDescriptionFarringdon Flood 1915.jpg | Flooding of the Metropolitan Railway under Ray Street Grid Iron near Farringdon Underground station on 6 May 1915. The flooding followed a severe thunderstorm. In view here are two horse drawn fire engines mounted in railway wagons and pumping away water from the tracks. Just visible in the bottom right hand corner is the front of Beyer Peacock 4-4-0T Metropolitan A-class locomotive no 26 which had a steam pump fitted to its front buffer and was also assisting with clearing the water. London Transport Museum, Reference number : 1998/43457. Note: Emergency work at Farringdon Underground station following. Two horse drawn fire engines carried on 3 plank railway wagons are pumping water out. a further pump attached to a steam engine is on the bottom right. In the background a Metropolitan Railway guards van can be seen. |
