English: Fol. 214v and 215r of the Egmond Gospels. Dirk II and his wife Hildegard presenting the codex to the St Adelbert Abbey and the same couple imploring St Adelbert their intercessor with Christ. Nederlands: Evangeliarum van Egmond. Reims, derde kwart negende eeuw. Eerste afbeelding van mensen uit wat nu Nederland is. Rond 975 kwam het boek in bezit van Dirk II van Holland, die er een kostbare versierde band om liet zetten. Hij gaf het vervolgens ten geschenke aan de Abdij van Egmond. Bij die gelegenheid liet hij twee miniaturen toevoegen, die de schenking vastleggen. Op de linker afbeelding zien we hoe Dirk en zijn vrouw het boek op het altaar van de kloosterkerk neerleggen, op de rechter smeken ze tot de H. Adalbert om voorspraak bij Christus. |
