Dear Ms Etheridge,

My thanks for your email on 8 September 2017 in reply to mine on 1 September. (Both below).   I apologise for having to raise this matter once again. I have not checked the state of Haringey Law Centre front yard today, but I have done so several times since our email exchange and have posted further updated photos online. Which you are welcome to view as they are all publicly accessible here   I may be wrong - or maybe things have changed today - but the only difference I’ve recently noticed was that the pistachio coloured toilet bowl was lying on its side.   While thanking you for your previous prompt and sympathetic response, can I please take issue with one comment you made. You described the property as “not in the state one would want”. Perhaps we might agree that this could be seen as somewhat of an understatement.   Writing this, I have in mind a book I’m sure you would have read several years ago. In “Creating Public Value”, Professor Mark Moore gave an example of the importance of maintaining standards in the public face of an agency. I gave the reference with another example here.   Could you please tell me who exactly is responsible for keeping the exterior of this building regularly cleaned and properly maintained? And for the prompt removal of dumping?   Thanks in advance for your help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Mr Stanton

Thank you for your email of last Friday. I agree that the property is not in the state one would want.   I understand that the cladding at ground floor level is planned for replacement this autumn. Officers are looking at whether this can be speeded up and I would be happy to update you when I have a clearer timescale for that work.   As you note, unfortunately the yard has frequently been subject to fly tipping. Officers have made provision for contractors to attend and clean it up. Similarly, our grounds maintenance contractor will visit the site and weed it and cut back vegetation as required.   I hope that this will resolve the issues – please do let me know if there continue to be problems, and have a lovely weekend.

Zina

Dear Ms Etheridge,

Can I please ask for your assistance in helping to solve a longstanding problem.   I live a few minutes’ walk from 7 Holcombe Road which houses the offices of the Haringey Law Centre. It is near the new stalls in Holcombe Market which – although completed a few years later than the “pledge” made by the Council - are a small success among the many expensive failures of the “regeneration” efforts.   However, the few seconds it takes to walk from the stalls to the Law Centre brings visitors to a shameful and shaming example of a Council-owned building which appears content to present the worst face of a publicly-funded service.   The building cladding has been deteriorating for several years. The front yard has for several months been the site of litter, dumped rubbish; overgrown bushes; various pieces and piles of masonry; and at least until recently, a pistachio coloured toilet bowl.   Rather than give a more detailed description, I’d invite you to see for yourself by looking at the photo album I have been collecting on my Flickr photoblog. Here’s the link. All the photos are publicly accessible.

I look forward to hearing from you.
