Maiko with a traditional hairstyle

| Description |
English: Gion Higashi maiko Hinayū in Seirai-in Temple. Hinayu's hairstyle is called "sakkō" and includes a crane kanzashi (hairpin) and several tortoiseshell accessories. Her kimono undercollar is of typical Gion Higashi colour: red with golden particles. Right side of her hairstyle has a dangling bira kanzashi (hairpin). Her red obiage (a piece of contrasting fabric visible at the top of her obi sash) is tucked to signal her maturity.
Sakkō is the last hairstyle worn by maiko before they become a geiko (geisha). Hinayū works for Okatome okiya. |
