DescriptionGlenwood Springs Debris Flow Hazard Zone Area of Critical Environmental Concern, BLM Colorado (15761996001).jpg |
Glenwood Springs Debris Flow Hazard Zone Area of Critical Environmental Concern, BLM Colorado Areas of Critical Environmental Concern are designated for a variety of interesting and important reasons, not just for scenic or historic values. For example, consider Glenwood Springs Debris Flow Hazard Zone ACEC. The 6,100-acre ACEC was designated on steep slopes above the City of Glenwood Springs because the area is prone to debris flows, slumps and slides, and rock falls. Landslides like these can threaten lives and property, so the ACEC is primarily managed to mitigate these hazards and keep people safe. U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has some great info on debris flows like Glenwood Springs Debris Flow Hazard Zone ACEC here: pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs-176-97/fs-176-97.pdf. |
