| Description |
English: About four hundred yards as the crow flies from my front door is this scenic disaster. NSG's (ex-Pilkington) Greengate float glass works is the background as 46233 Duchess Of Sutherland heads up the brew towards Liverpool with the Cumbrian Mountain Express.
The glassworks was built on an area reclaimed from slag heaps and this whole area was/is a bit dodgy. I was once blindfolded and put in the back of a van and dumped here on a cold pitch-black winter's night in the late 1960's. The objective was for me and the other 12-year olds to find our way back to the Scout Hut! |
