Das allegorische Gemälde Haestars ist das einzige Bild des 17. Jahrhunderts mit einer Kanone in der niederländischen Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts, vergleichbar mit einer späten Darstellung der Bastion Blauhoofd von Ludolf Bakhuizen (TEFAF 2020 Bijl-van Urk). Moritz von Oranien hatte um 1620 nur noch vier Gefechtstypen vorgesehen, darunter wie hier eine Halbkartaune., auch 24 Pfünder. Ein Soldat in römisch-antiker Rüstung mit Hellebarde steht hinter der Kanone, dahinter sind orientalisch gekleidete Menschen. Eine Frau mit einem Turban reitet auf einem Esel, auch die Mutter mit Kind trägt einen Turban. Vor ihr liegen ein Zeremonialschwert der ghanaeschen Ashanti und ein asiatischer Sattel. Die Militaria im Vordergrund sind europäisch. Der Hellebardier könnte der Geschützgiesser Coenraet Wegewaert aus Den Haag sein. (Coll. Hoogsteder Museum Stichting, Den Haag) |
