Description |
English: Linen cloth square with a thread count of 37 x 37 per square cm. The linen has selvages on two sides and is hemmed at the other two. In one corner is an owner name, 16 mm high, embroidered with black silk in uneven backstitch, of uncertain interpretation, perhaps a crowned G (?) or a crest with a beam. The canvas is folded in three lengthwise and is stained by annular, rust colored spots in four groups of two; two of the groups are weaker. Moreover, the whole of one side with the label stained is similarly. Reportedly (see literature) the spots may be from the king's embalmed heart which was buried under the pulpit of Weissenfels church after embalming. The cloth would then have been united with the rest of the Lutzen Memorials of the Queen since she received the heart for safekeeping. The spots are not blood but probably embalming fluid. The ownership label in the corner might be Lord Chamberlain Bernolf von Craylsheim's arms, which consists of a shield with beam. |
