DescriptionHeilbronn - Class 50 Steam Locomotive.jpg |
English: A class 50 steam locomotive at Heilbronn station. Class 50 (class 050 after 1968) was the premier German locomotive for freight trains during World War II and many years afterward. The wheel arrangement was 2-10-0 (1 E). It was developed in the late 1930s, and over 3,100 were built between 1939 and 1959.
Heilbronn was one of the few places where the Deutsche Bundesbahn operated a lot of steam locomotives in 1970. The main line south to Stuttgart had been electrified for many years. Other lines, including the line to Heidelberg along the Neckar River, had not been electrified.
