Description
English:
Sajnovics-Batthyány-Dréher-mansion. The wilderness, the area of today's Tordas, which was uninhabited in 1697, was bought in 1697 by Matthias Sajnovics and János Balogh. Landlord Mátyás (Matthias) Sajnovics settled 25 taxpayer settlers / families from the Nitra area with the promise of religious freedom. The famous man of the settlement, the grandson of Matthias Sajnovics, a Jesuit monk, was the assistant of the famous astronomer Maximilian Hell. The Batthyánys bought Tordas in 1864. The Batthyány family added a wing to the ancient Sajnovics mansion/country house. The mansion was owned by the Dréher family from 1875 to 1945. In romantic and eclectic style, it was transformed with Tudor elements by the Dréher family on the occasion that in the 1930s King George V of England came here to hunt as heir to the throne. The mansion is surrounded by a 50000sqm/5ha English park. After World War 2, the building housed a pioneer camp. Then it was the camp of the Golden Team football team. Since 1958 it has been the social home of the Budapest Council. /translated by Microsoft Bing/ - 5 Sajnovics Square (Sport Street), Tordas, Fejér County, Hungary.
