Description
English: Cartoon and text of a preacher denouncing a jazz band, 1922. Text quotes December 1921 AP story of Rev. Philip Yarrow of Chicago denouncing the immoral effect of jazz bands.

Cartoon shows an angry clergyman in a pulpit at left. At center is an Afro-American jazz band in vigorous poses. At right a Caucasian couple in elegant dress does a close dance.

Editor comments: "Jazzy music sensuous. Bunk I say! There was more immorality in Paris in 1821 to the strains of the minuet than there is in Chicago in 1922 to the strains of the Livery Stable Blues! As we told you before, dear children, the Perverts of Prohibition are not in the business to promote Morality, but to stifle Joy."
