המתקן, מהתקופה הרומית ביזנטית, שחצובות בו גומחות, שימש ככל הנראה לגידול יונים, לצורך מאכל ופולחן. הלשחשת שלהם שימשה לדישון שדות. המתקן הועבר לכאן בעת סלילת כביש חיפה תל-אביב הסמוך (כביש מס' 2). השערות נוספות לשימון במתקן הן: אחסון אפר מתים ואכסון מזון. |
