Israel Hiking Map is an open data project that promotes contribution to open data platforms such as Open Street Map and Wikimedia Commons.

As of May-2024, it helped its user community to contribute more than 6000 images to Wikimedia commons using the Israel Hiking Map app [1],[2] and website.

Israel Hiking Map (IHM) is a project based on open platforms, such as Open Street Map (OSM) and Wikimedia. One of the key goals of the project is to keep user's contributions under open licenses. Updates to the map shown by Israel Hiking Map are uploaded to OSM. User-contributed images are uploaded to Wikimedia commons with the specific author's identity.

Every IHM user must agree to the OSM and Wikimedia terms of use before being able to contribute to them.

Note on duplicates

Occasionally an IHM user, usually a novice user, would upload the same picture twice. Unfortunately, we at IHM have no way of detecting and preventing such behavior and we're sorry for that.

If you know of a programmable approach for such detection, please contact us. You may choose to use the "Report an issue" menu entry on the website.
