Description

The beautiful parish church architecture is a historic Landmark since 1942 and dates back from 1659.

Molinos fue fundada por los españoles a mediados del siglo XVII. El pueblo es atravesado por el Río Calchaquí y mantiene la tranquilidad de otros tiempos.

Con sus casas de estilo colonial que fueran parte de aquella gobernación española, calles amplias y empedradas, casas de adobe pintadas de blanco, pesadas puertas de madera en las ochavas, tejos de paja o de tejas, grandes rejas forjadas en las esquinas. La casa de la gobernación hoy es un elegido hotel "La Hacienda de Molinos". "La bonita iglesia parroquial de arquitectura cuzqueña es Monumento Histórico desde 1942 y data de 1659.

Historia:

En la segunda mitad del siglo XVII, don Diego Díaz Gómez hizo construir un oratorio en la casona de su Encomienda de Molinos. En 1760 su yerno, el general Domingo de Isasmendi, la amplió, para luego cederla a la diócesis de Tucumán, a fin de fundar el curato de San Pedro Nolasco de Calchaquí. La iglesia actual fue levantada probablemente a fines del siglo XVIII, en ese mismo sitio, por el último gobernador realista de Salta, don Nicolás Severo de Isasmendi, allí enterrado.
