DescriptionIlyushin IL-38SD 'May' IN305.jpg |
The finest gem on our visit to Zhukovsky was this Indian Navy IL-38SD 'May'. Unpainted and completely unmarked, it was later noted here fully painted (December 2012), confirming it's identity as 'IN305'. Originally built as a standard IL-38 for the Russian Navy, it was delivered to India in 1983 and modernised to SD standard with the Sea Dragon search and tracking system by 2006. This was actually the first 'SD' conversion and undertook some testing, including firing a Kh-35E anti-shipping missile. c/n 080010609, l/n 29. It was parked on the Ilyushin OKB ramp and seen from our coach as we departed the Russian Air Force 100th Anniversary Airshow. Zhukovsky, Russia. 12-8-2012 |
