English: International campaign for the safeguard of sites and monuments in the Cultural Triangle. At the request of the Sri-Lankan Government UNESCO is taking part in a five-year programme to restore and protect the principal sites and monuments within a zone marked out by the ancient cultural capitals of Anuradhapura Polonnaruwa and Kandy. Here stands the colossal stone image of the Buddha carved in the 8th century A.C. It is 40 feet above its pedestal.

A la demande du Gouvernement du Sri Lanka l'UNESCO participe à un programme de cinq ans destiné à restaurer et à assurer la protection des principaux sites et monuments à l'intérieur d'une zone délimitée par les anciennes capitales culturelles d'Amuradhapura Polonnaruwa et Kandy.
