editThe Alleged Amorous Photographer in Court. The Matter Adjourned until Tomorrow Afternoon. This afternoon, the space reserved in Justice Walsh's Court, for spectators, was crowded to excess by an interested assemblage, anxious to hear the testimony in the case of Miss Jennie S. Taylor against J. W. Crawford, the photographer, of 311 Fulton street. She charges that on Sunday last she went there and had her picture taken. On Monday last she went for a proof, as she had had a carte de visite taken. She says that when Crawford gave her the proof ho put his arms round her, told her that he was lonely, that she was a "nice little girl," and he would like to have her for company. According to Miss Taylor's story, Crawford caught her round the waist and kissed her several times, then he attempted to drag her over to the lounge, where upon Miss Taylor, who is a modest girl, screamed. "Don't do that," said Crawford, "or you will alarm the neighbors." "That is just what I intend to do," was her reply. Then she alleges that he said, "Well, give me just one kiss and I will let you go." According to her statement she gave him "just one kiss," under protest, and then escaping from the embraces, she ran to her home, No. 91 Poplar street and related the circumstances to her mother. Then followed the warrant and arrest. Crawford denies the statement made by Miss Taylor. This afternoon Crawford, who is a medium sized man, with black hair and wears a mustache and Napoleonic goatee, appeared in court with his counsel, Mr. Osborn, and took a seat to the right of the bench. Miss Taylor, with her relatives, occupied seats a short distance removed from the defendant. Counselor Hugo Hirsch, for the prosecution, stated that he was ready to proceed, but Mr. Osborne excused himself on she found that additional counsel had been retained by Mr. Crawford, but as he was not present, he requested an adjournment. It was finally agreed to adjourn the matter until tomorrow afternoon at half past one, when it is to proceed without delay.
