J. Arthur Baird Coach of Carleton Eleven. Special to The Globe. Northfield. Minnesota; September 19, 1903. With the opening of Carleton college, football practice begins in earnest are supporters of Carleton are looking for a winning team. The coach. J. Arthur Baird, of Northwestern university. is famous for his football playing. he having played every position on the team but full and quarter during his three years at college. He is an all around athlete, his records in the various events being as follows: Broad jump; 21 feet; high jump, 5 feet 7 inches; pole vault, 14 feet 6 inches; shot put, 39 feet 9 inches; hammer throw, 126 feet 1 inch; discus, 121 feet 3 inches.
