Kissing. Another Evidence that Goes by Favor. A Photographer Accused of Taking it by Force A Case that Came Before Judge Walsh. James W. Crawford, a photographer, doing business at the corner of Fulton and Johnson streets, over Mr. Tice's jewelry store, was arrested this morning on a warrant issued by Justice Walsh, on the complaint of a young lady named Jennie S. Taylor, residing at No. 92 Poplar street, who charges him with committing an assault and battery on her, at his gallery, yesterday afternoon. Prior to the issuing of the warrant, Miss Taylor, who is 16 years of age and of quite prepossessing appearance, accompanied uy ner lamer, can ed on Justice Walsn ana expiainou urn gnorouuo ouo u against the photographer. Sho said that on Sunday last she called with her cousin, a young lady about her own age, at Crawford's gallery and eat for a portrait. Having secured a picture which she thought would suit her. She took her departure, promising to call around on the following day to see the proof. In accordance with her agreement she waa at the gallery about two o'clock yesterday afternoon and found Mr. Crawford alone. He showed her tho proof and she requested that he would let her take it home to see If her friends liked it, and to this he raised no objection. While she was standing In the office, she alleges, Crawford approached close to her side, got hold of her and attempted to kiss her, saying at the same time, "I want the company of a nice little girl like you." She resisted him, but he continued hiB unwelcome attentions, and drew her toward the sofa. Placing his arms around her, he again attempted to kiss her, and on this occasion was successful. He did not attempt any further violence than that already described. When she oried out he said, "Don't do so, you will alarm the neighbors;" to which she replied, that's just what I want to do." The girl then nastily left the place, Crawford accompanying her to tho door, and saying, "Just give me one kiss more before you go, a request of course, with which she did not comply. Feeling much displeased over what had taken place, Miss Taylor informed hor father, who, in spite of the unpleasant publicity in which it would place his daughter, determined to punish the photographer for his alleged disgraceful conduct in the matter, a sworn complaint, embodying the above facts was then made out and Crawford was arrested. When taken to the Courtroom, Crawford informed a reporter of the Eagle, that there was not a word of truth in the young lady's statement, that he had never kissed or attempted to kiss her, and that he suspected a job was put up on him by a business rival. Justice Walsh is determined to give the case a careful investigation, and postponed the examination till next Friday, at 1 p.m., till which time Crawford was released on $500 bail. Miss Taylor and her family are quite respectable and utterly deny the insinuations thrown out by the accused. Crawford is about 43 years of age and has a wife and family.
