Second Day's Deer Hunting. The Sport Much Better Than on the First Day. Possible Effect of Mr. DeGraff's Untimely Death. (Special to the Eagle) Central Islip, Long Island; November 4, 1899. The second day of the deer shooting season opened up here yesterday with a clear, bright sky and the gunners took advantage of the fine day, turning out in great numbers, and more were killed than on last Wednesday. From all reports throughout this section, it Is estimated that there were over twenty deer killed between Central Islip and Ronkonkoma, Islip and Sayville. William Keran of New York City killed two deer in one shot near East Hauppauge, this being the best record made so far this year. Charles Beach of Bay Shore and Edward Colyer of Hempstead both shot at the same time and captured a five year old buck. John Wells of Manor killed two and John Moore of Manor killed a three year old buck, between Central Islip and old Lakeland station. L. M. Berhing of Brooklyn killed a two year old buck east of Central Islip station. John Wood of Riverhead killed a five year old buck on the bluffs near Foote crossing, which was considered the largest one shot this year. The Farmingdale Club, consisting of Jarvis Lattin, Edward Barto, Lewis Bedell and Henry Lorine, killed three early in the forenoon, south of the brook along the Long Island Railroad, east of the Central Islip station. Thomas Cordingley of Central Islip, killed a five year old buck on the south side of the railroad track, near Foote crossings. Reitz Berg of Ronkonkoma killed a large doe west of Ronkonkoma station, and a party from Greenport shot two near old Lakeland station. Joseph Donohue of Hauppauge killed a two year old buck near Hauppauge on the main road leading to Smithtown. Rabbit and quail hunting is excellent and a large number of these animals has been shot within the past few days.
