Description
Bahasa Indonesia: Kodo Merah/Katak Api (Leptophryne cruentata) merupakan spesies kodok endemik Jawa Barat. Spesies ini dideskripsi pertama kali pada tahun 1838 oleh Teschudi dari dua contoh koleksi spesimen yang kemungkinan didapat dari Cibodas. Kodok dengan ukuran 2,5 – 4 cm. Status keterancamannya dikategorikan kedalam Critically endangered oleh IUCN. Antara tahun 1990-an hingga 2003 tidak banyak informasi mengenai keberadaannya. Mulai tahun 2004, ada beberapa laporan dari beberapa lokasi di kawasan Taman Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango (TNGGP) dan Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun Salak (TNGHS). Menurut Kusrini, MD (2007) kodok merah atau katak merah atau katak api hanya ditemukan di TNGGP, hal ini berdasarkan laporan-laporan ilmiah yang ada, sedangkan untuk TNGHS hanya bersifat informasi saja dan belum ada laporan yang bisa dipertanggungjawabkan sesuai kaidah keilmiahan. Nama Katak Api muncul ketika Leptophryne cruentata di kukuhkan menjadi satwa nasional pada 5 November 2011 oleh Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup, sedangkan nama katak merah maupun kodok merah umum digunakan oleh TNGGP.
