Description
English: Arnošt Steiner (* January 12, 1915 Třinec - October 9, 1982 Brno) was a Czech soldier, colonel and a hero of the second world war. In the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps (under the command of Ludvík Svoboda) he took a part in all battles from Sokolov via Kiev, Bílá Cerkev, Žaškov and Dukla. Together with their comrades, he arrived in Prague in May 1945. He was legendary warrior, especially in the battles at Dukla during conquering the point 534 and Hyrowa Mountains, when he gained the nickname Železný Arnošt (Iron Arnošt) because he survived even in that situations where it was not possible to survive (according to his comrades). He was awarded the "Czechoslovak War Cross 1939", two Czechoslovak medals "For Gallantry"", "Sokolov Memorial Medal" and a number of other military decorations.
