English: LIBI_00019_00393; This item is an original albumen photograph of 8 Kiowa Indians, standing and seated in front of tepees, captured in the Battle of Washita. The photograph is 5 1/4 x 8 3/8" (8 1/4 x 10 1/4" mounted) and was produced circa 1869. The image was possibly taken by W.S. Soule at Ft. Hayes or Camp Supply. On the verso, a handwritten notation in pencil reads, "Indian Village--Kansas/Buffalo robes being prepared on the right/Lodges tepees/shields of buffalo hide/Metal Medals from gov't/Kansas Indians" and is signed by Elizabeth B.
