Kvassay Promenade from Fesztivál Square corner. Here is the 6th station of the Keltatúra (~Celtic Tour) educational trail with an information board about Kvassay Promenade. Kvassay promenade is a landscape protection area named after Jenő Kvassay (1850-1919), the excellent water engineer and the designer of the port. His idea was to build the 1200m long, lined with Platanus, promenade along the lake, the coastal protection, which served as a model for the other settlements living along Lake Balaton. The villas along the promenade were built in between 1890 and 1920, after nationalization they became to Hungarian National Counsil of Trade Unions /comm. this organizations shared the places and holiday times to the stately company workers/, now most of them are privately owned. The thinking of the local 'upper class' of the time was exemplary, "Lake Balaton belongs to everyone!" and the Shore of Lake Balaton was left free, where the promenade was built, the entire length of which can be walked along the beach.
