Description
English: Built at Doncaster in 1937, No 4489 was one of five of the class named after British Commonwealth countries to celebrate the coronation of George VI.

They were used on the Coronation service, and had stainless steel numbers and letters, and were fitted with a stainless steel strip along the bottom of the side valances. Renumbered as 60010 under British Railways, she had lost the stainless steel, but retained the CPR-type bell mounted in front of the chimney. After withdrawal in May 1965 she was dumped behind Darlington shed and some parts were removed for other engines. In 1966, however, she was saved and cosmetically restored for the Canadian Railroad Historical Association. She went on display at the Canadian Railway Museum at Delson, Quebec, near Montreal. In October 2012 she returned to the UK (along with 60008 from the USA) to attend the 'Mallard 75' events to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Mallards record breaking run in July 1938. No 60010 was found to be in a poor condition, never having been properly restored, and a full cosmetic restoration was carried out at the NRM Workshop in Shildon. The results are stunning! The loco has been returned to it's 'Coronation' condition, including the side valances complete with stainless steel strip and the bell has been refitted ahead of the chimney. The loco will return to Canada in 2014. Seen during the 'Mallard 75' event at the National Railway Museum, York.
