Description
English: Interior of London Underground DM No.3734 of LT 1983 Stock Batch II 3-car emu half-train built by Metro-Cammell in 1988 (one of 16 half-train units) for the Jubilee Line as a continuation of Batch I, 15 6-car trains of which were built in 1983 for the Jubillee line. The 1983 Stock was the last tube train designed by the London Underground and the last that evolved from the 1938 Stock.

The 1983 Stock was contemporary with the highly successful sub-surface D Stock and like them had single leaf sliding doors, the first on the tube network. Unfortunately, these proved unsuitable for the exceptionally busy tube lines as it slowed boarding and alighting to an unacceptable degree. Also, whilst the D Stock were very reliable, the 1983 Stock was anything but.

Plans to refurbish the 1983 Stock trains and fit them with double leaf doors so they could complement the 1996 Stock proved far too costly with the result that all the 1983 Stock was withdrawn prematurely to store in 1996. No future use could be found for them and all were scrapped in 2015. At the London Transport Acton Depot Museum, 25 September 2021.
