Beschrijving : Landgoed De Vossenberg. Eigendom N.V. Landmaatschappij Drenthe
Annotatie : De Vossenberg werd in 1915, als vorm van geldbelegging, gesticht door de Landmaatschappij Drenthe. De aandeelhouders van deze maatschappij waren plantagehouders in Nederlands-Indië. In 1917 had het gebied een omvang van ruim 500 hectare bereikt. Het beheer werd verzorgd door de Nederlandse Heidemaatschappij. De heidevelden werden beplant met naaldbos of omgevormd tot landbouwgrond en verpacht aan boeren. Het in 1918 gebouwde landhuis De Vossenberg fungeerde als centraal punt bij de ontginningswerkzaamheden. Vanuit deze boerderij werden de aanwezige heidegronden met behulp van een ossenploeg in hoog tempo ontgonnen. Het huis dat destijds midden op de open vlakte werd gebouwd, ligt nu verscholen in het bos.
