Title
Français : Le Lis Confessant La Violette
Description
English: Napoleon (known as Father Violet) is improbably confessing to Louis XVIII (often represented by the lily). Louis's confessional is labeled Father Tartuffe after the character in Molière's play who was himself a hypocritical imposter. The caricaturist is criticizing the selective forgiveness and punishment that Louis is meting out.

Published spring 1815 (per the catalog of the De Vinck collection), but a handwritten note on our drawing says 1814. Broadley #205.
