Description

Lepista (Fr.) W.G. Sm.

Image location: West Kempsey, New South Wales, Australia

This group of Fungi were growing in a “Fairy Ring” with a perimeter of about 20feet or 7 meters. They were all in the early stages of show. The stems were firm and moist. The Caps were delicate and easily broken. The centre of the caps had a button like convex shape that was well pronounced in comparison to the size of the cap and yellow in appearance.

The caps were not sticky, but moist, (it has been raining here and we have had about 100mm of rain in the last 24hours. There was no identifiable aroma except to say that they had a slight herb scent. I cut the stipe for viewing. The colours are true. The stipes were unuaslly secure in the soil. The area of find was in a paddock that is close to domestic type gardens and is a grassy area that is mowed.

In another posting I advised that these fungi were growing in close proximity to Pine Trees. (Hoop and NorfolkPines.) I have changed the nominated ID to Lepista for further comment.
