Description
English: U.S. Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade Ira "Ike" Kepford pictured towards the end of his second combat deployment, 26 March 1944. From the time this image was taken up until 20 June 1944, Kepford was the highest scoring ace in the U.S. Navy with 16 credited aerial victories. This score can be seen on his #29 aircraft, denoted via the Rising Sun flags stenciled to the left of the aircraft number. Kepford was assigned to Fighter Squadron 17 (VF-17) "Jolly Rogers".
