1935 poster for Louis Armstrong and other music in New Orleans
Description

Poster promoting shows in July (1935) at the Golden Dragon, New Orleans. Most prominently Louis Armstrong, also Kid Clayton band.

Notes: The "Golden Dragon" was a "Colored" show place in the era of racial segregation, located in the 200 block of S. Rampart Street, run by the adjacent ("Colored") Astoria Hotel. On Armstrong's previous time in New Orleans in 1931 he was booked in a "Whites Only" venue, and vowed to return to play for local "Colored" fans; this visit was the fulfillment of that vow.
