Last Rites Set For General Durfee. Services Will Be, Tomorrow in Riverside Church. Riverside, California; March 20, 1933. Funeral services for Brig.-Gen. Lucius Loyd Durfee, U.S.A., retired, will be conducted at All Saints Episcopal Church at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning with Rev. Henry Clarke Smith, the rector, officiating. Burial will be in either Arlington National Cemetery or in the cemetery at West Point. Gen. Durfee. who was 72 years of age, died yesterday at the family residence, 7914 Magnolia avenue. Gen. Durfee was born in Chardon, Ohio, where he spent his boyhood. He attended a military academy and then went to West Point, where he was graduated in the class of which General Pershing also was a member. Gen. Durfee saw service in the Far West and served in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. During the World War he was overseas with the [[w:American Expeditionary Forces|American Expeditionary Forces, as a brigadier-general. General Durfee was chaplain of Riverside Post, American Legion, and was a member of the Riverside Exchange Club. In addition to his widow, Francis M. Durfee, he leaves three sons, two daughters and a brother, Gordon A. Durfee. Los Angeles; Capt. Lloyd V. H. Durfee of Fort Hamilton, N.Y.; Cadet Donald L. Durfee of West Point. N.Y.; Francis M. Durfee and Mrs. Dorothy Graham of Riverside, and Joseph A. Durfee of Warren, Ohio.

In this article on the funeral of Lucius Loyd Durfee, he is listed as "Lucius Lloyd Durfee" but he named his son, "Loyd VanHorne Durfee" (1895-1974), so "Loyd" is the proper spelling. "Loyd", as the father's name, is also used on the birth certificate of his daughter Dorothy. (Source: Richard Arthur Norton in 2019)
