Antwerpen, Jacob van Liesvelt, 1534 BMH Warm pi1259F8

In 1526 publiceert Van Liesvelt de eerste geïllustreerde bijbel in het Nederlands. Deze bijbel is gebaseerd op Luthers vertaling. Ook de illustraties zijn kopieën naar houtsneden van Luthers bijbel in het Duits (1523). De Liesveltbijbel is verdacht bij de katholieke kerk en bij de overheid. Van Liesvelt neemt er kanttekeningen in op, waarin hij verklaart dat alleen Christus de mens kan redden. In 1545 wordt de uitgever in Antwerpen onthoofd vanwege zijn ketterse opvattingen.
