Description |
Saint Nicholas, probably by the Master of the Legend of Saint Lucy (c. 1500), with in the background the city of Bruges. The side panels portray some miracles that were ascribed to him: providing a dowry to save the three daughters of a poor man from slavery/prostitution, providing grain to save the city of Myra from starvation, and the axe murder on three students by an innkeeper and his wife. In the missing panel, not on display in the Groeningemuseum, it is shown how Nicholas reassembles the brined body parts of the murdered students and brings them back to life.]] |
