P.F.C. Norton. Former J. C. Soldier Dies In England. The mother of P.F.C. Martin A. Norton, formerly of 155 Newkirk Street, has been informed of her sons death in the following telegram: Journal office — dated April 1. — No letter has yet been received. P.F.C. Norton was inducted from Newark, March 20, 1913, a year before he died. He received basic training at Camp Gordon, Georgia, and later was stationed in California, then transferred to one of the New England states, from which he sailed for England, December, 1943. He arrived Jan. 27, 1944, and was en route at sea all the intervening time between these dates. He received his schooling in Scranton, Pa. On his birthday, April 6, he would have been 22 years old. He has two brothers in service, Corp. John Norton, now in Cairo, Egypt, and Sergt. Michael Norton, at Camp Roberts, California, due in Jersey City on fur-lough, Thursday. A third brother, Peter Norton, is waiting for call to the navy, having passed his physical examination. Martin Norton was the youngest of the four brothers. His father was the late John Norton. He has two sisters, Miss Mary Norton and Mrs. Celi Doherty, of Jersey City. Journal office — dated April 1. — No letter has yet been received. P.F.C. Public domain
This work is in the public domain because it was published in the United States between 1929 and 1963, and although there may or may not have been a copyright notice, the copyright was not renewed. For further explanation, see Commons:Hirtle chart and the copyright renewal logs. Note that it may still be copyrighted in jurisdictions that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works (depending on the date of the author's death), such as Canada (70 years p.m.a.), Mainland China (50 years p.m.a., not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 years p.m.a.), Mexico (100 years p.m.a.), Switzerland (70 years p.m.a.), and other countries with individual treaties.

Works copyrighted before 1964 had to have the copyright renewed sometime in the 28th year. If the copyright was not renewed, the work is in the public domain. No renewal notice was found for this periodical for issues published in this year. For instance, the first New York Times issue renewed was from April 1, 1928. Some publications may have renewed an individual article from an earlier time, for instance the New York Times renewed at least one article published on January 9, 1927. If you find any contrary evidence, or the renewal database has been updated, please notify me. No renewal notices have been found for articles supplied by the Associated Press to subscribing newspapers.
