The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe (Swallow) was the world's first operational turbojet fighter aircraft.It saw action starting in 1944 as a multi-role fighter/bomber/reconnaissance/interceptor warplane for the Luftwaffe. The fighter-bomber was also called Sturmvogel (Stormbird). The Me 262 had a negligible impact on the course of the war due to its late introduction,

De Messerschmitt Me 262 bijgenaamd Schwalbe (Zwaluw) was het eerste operationele jachtvliegtuig aangedreven door straalmotoren. Het werd ook in versies als jachtbommenwerper (Sturmvogel, Stormvogel) en verkenningsvliegtuig gebouwd. Het toestel werd door de Luftwaffe in beperkte mate ingezet tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en had een verwaarloosbaar effect op het verloop van d eorolog.
