Description
English: Crucifix (Wieher Kreuz) in Mettingen-Wiehe, Kreis Steinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The sandstone cross was made by sculptor Joseph Krautwald. It was errected and blessed in 1961 by the Pielke family.
Deutsch: Wieher Kreuz, ein Wegkreuz, in Mettingen-Wiehe, Kreis Steinfurt, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland. Wiehe ist eine der Mettinger Bauerschaften. Es handelt sich dabei um das Hofkreuz der Familie Pielke, deren Bauernhof sich gegenüber dem Steinkreuz befindet. Die Familie hat es 1961 aus Dankbarkeit für die Genesung ihrer Tochter, die sich als knapp Zweijährige im Winter 1960 in heißer Lauge den Rücken verbrannt hatte, errichtet. Schöpfer des Kreuzes ist der Rheiner Bildhauer Joseph Krautwald, der es aus Ibbenbürener Sandstein anfertigte. Pater Heinrich Pielke hat das Kreuz am 9. Juli 1961 geweiht, die Festansprache hielt Kaplan Dr. Josef Homeyer, der spätere Bischof von Hildesheim.
