Notes

edit

The family oral tradition is that this is the only extant photo of Patrick J. Norton (1856-1905). He is most likely the man holding a bowler hat in his hands. He would be 24 in 1880 and 34 in 1890. He arrived in the United States around 1880. He has not been found in the 1880 United States census. He lived in Boston, Massachusetts from about 1880 to around 1889. He married in Jersey City, New Jersey on 13 April 1890. He died in 1905. The other people in the photograph may be his siblings that lived in Boston. One sibling was Catherine Ann Norton (1852–1913) and there is a match in DNA between the two sides of the family. None of the women look like his wife who has extant photos so the picture most likely was before 1890. (Source: Richard Arthur Norton in 2019)
